We were asked to complete the renovation of the offices and training suites at Trojan utilities. This was a great opportunity to show off our work, as it included areas of training for smart meters for the new rollout due to start in 2015. Alongside this we introduced low energy lighting and emergency lighting to the building and data cabling throughout. 3 Phase power bays were also installed so the trainees could experience 3 phase smart meters.

Completing the national roll-out will be an enormous logistical and technical challenge for the energy industry. Involving visits to around 30 million homes and small businesses and installing over 50 million meters.

It is imperative as an electrical contractor to stay on top of all new developments and legislation, and to be able to be involved in this huge change from the beginning is a fantastic experience.

As well as the Bradford training centre, we have also set up the electrical and smart meter training facilities at New Tech Training in Blackburn and Accrington and Rossendale College.
